Undergraduate Programmes featuring medical anthropology

In the UK, bachelor’s programmes specifically focusing on medical anthropology are pretty much non-existent. Having that said, several universities do implement modules in health and medical anthropology in their general undergraduate programmes.

Durham University
Health and Human Sciences (BSc)
All BA/BSc programmes in Anthropology at Durham University implement modules in medical anthropology (social, biological and evolutionary perspectives) in their curricula, and have several elective options. However, Health and Human Sciences is a specific profile.

University College London
Medical Anthropology (IBSc)
This Integrated BSc is uniquely designed to provide Medical students with techniques for gaining cross cultural understanding through specially designed courses including ‘Clinical Ethnography’ and ‘Anthropology for Medical Students’ to provide them with life-long learning skills that they can use throughout their medical career.

University of Bristol
Global Health (BSc)
An intercalated award is an additional undergraduate degree (BSc or BA) or master’s level programme that you complete in an intensive year away from your normal medical, dental or veterinary studies. All UK and international medical, dental and vet students can apply to intercalate.
